Bringing in a backup striker is a "main priority" for Antonio Conte at Tottenham this summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Harry Kane remains Spurs' only recognised option up front, with the north Londoners failing to sign an understudy in any of the last three transfer windows.

What's the latest news involving Tottenham?

While Conte's side might be well-placed in their battle to finish in the top four, Spurs must improve their squad next season if they want to compete in the Premier League and Europe, regardless of what competition they're playing in.

Tottenham have improved of late, but their lack of options off the bench remain evident. One of their major issues has been a lack of a second striker, which has forced Kane to start every game but one under Conte.

Fortunately, Kane has managed to stay fit, playing 45 matches, but adding competition to the squad should benefit all parties.

According to the Telegraph, Conte wants to sign six players when the transfer window reopens for business, and O'Rourke reckons that one of those must be a striker.

What did O'Rourke say about Tottenham?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Their striker situation has been ongoing for a while now. They didn't bring one in the summer to provide cover for Kane and Son, so a striker is definitely a main priority."

Which strikers have Tottenham been linked with?

Tottenham have been without a second number nine in their squad since Carlos Vinicius left at the end of last season, but in truth, Fernando Llorente was the last time they had a trusted number nine beyond Kane.

Spurs are expected to target one in the summer, though, and have already set their sights on Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, according to Spanish outlet SPORT.

The Argentine was linked with Tottenham last summer, although he decided to stay at San Siro, but he has worked under Conte previously which could give them the edge, with both Arsenal and Manchester City also in the race.

Torino striker Andrea Belotti, who's a free agent at the end of the season, has also been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having scored a hatful of goals in recent years in Serie A.
