Arsenal are ‘going to revisit the situation’ of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a new striker ahead of next season as manager Mikel Arteta aims to add some much-needed goal threat to his depleted forward line.

What is the latest news involving Arsenal?

Arteta made the bold decision to allow former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona on a free transfer in January following a disciplinary breach.

That left Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as the only senior striker options in Arsenal’s first-team squad, but the pair are both set to leave the Emirates Stadium on free transfers when their contracts expire in a few months’ time.

And according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the north London outfit have spoken to Martinez's representatives with the player facing an uncertain future.

It’s claimed that the Argentina international could be allowed to depart San Siro if Inter manage to sign Paulo Dybala on a free transfer from domestic rivals Juventus once his existing deal ends.

Martinez was first linked with Arsenal last summer before putting pen to paper on fresh terms until 2026 in October, yet it’s believed Simeone Inzaghi’s charges would be willing to sanction the exit of their prized asset for around £58 million.

What has Jones said about Martinez?

Arsenal are far from the only side to be linked with Martinez, though, and Jones has revealed Tottenham Hotspur are also eager to snap up the services of the 24-year-old, who ‘really fancies playing in the Premier League’.

He told GiveMeSport: “Spurs and Arsenal are both going to revisit the situation in the summer, and I'm told there is a fair chance Lautaro leaves Inter.

“He still really fancies playing in the Premier League, and the two London clubs are his best chance of that happening.”

Would Martinez be a good signing?

Martinez, who has been labelled "spectacular", has been outstanding for Inter since arriving from Racing Club in his homeland nearly four years ago, registering 69 goals and 23 assists in 175 appearances.

The South American struck up a formidable partnership with Romelu Lukaku last term to fire the Nerazzurri to their first Serie A title in 11 years. And Martinez has maintained his solid form despite his former teammate’s departure.

As per FBref, the diminutive star has ranked in the 95th percentile for total shots, 88th for touches in the attacking penalty area and 87th for shot-creating actions when compared to players in his position over the last year.

Fending off the competition for the £63m-rated striker’s signature will be difficult, but Martinez could prove to be an extremely astute acquisition for Arsenal.
