At WrestleMania 38 Stone Cold Steve Austin beat Kevin Owens in the main event of night one, nineteen years after his last match in WWE.

The match and moment seemed like the perfect way for Austin to finally bring down the curtain on his legendary career. However, it may not be the last time we see Stone Cold in a WWE ring.

As reported yesterday, The Rattlesnake has not ruled out being in California for next year’s WrestleMania, stating if Vince gives him a call then he’ll be there.

GiveMeSport looks at five things the WWE Hall of Famer could do at WrestleMania 39 as WWE goes Hollywood.

Austin vs. (former) Austin

There are clearly some big plans for Theory in WWE, as seen by events in Dallas and his United States title win this past week. By next April, you’d fully expect Theory to have even more clout and a big WrestleMania match on the horizon.

They don’t come much bigger than facing one of the best of all time, in a match that could continue the story the pair had on night two in Dallas. Giving the young upstart the win too - by way of some shenanigans to protect the Stone Cold legacy - would add another smug string to the talented star’s bow. A Stone Cold selfie at WrestleMania would be the ultimate snap, too.

The Austin attraction

With The Undertaker and Triple H now fully retired, WWE no longer has that go to ‘attraction match’ for WrestleMania they’ve relied on in previous years. If Austin is waiting on Vince McMahon’s call, could he be that guy for as long as his body lets him? If so then the options are endless.

AJ Styles could add to his impressive list of WrestleMania opponents by facing Stone Cold. Could we see Viper vs. Rattlesnake for the first time ever? Or could WWE even bring out their biggest guns and book Austin vs. Lesnar or Austin vs. John Cena or even Austin vs. Goldberg. All of which are WrestleMania worthy mouth-watering prospects.

Simultaneous Stunners

A classic wrestling tale of foes becoming friends and another big spotlight for one, Kevin Owens. A year on from their slugfest in Dallas, why not pair-up KO and Austin in tag team action. This would continue the narrative from the previous year, limit the load on Austin’s in-ring work and give fans a super cross-generation tag team that they’d see for one night only.

The only element that would need figuring out is the possible opponents for our dream team. Given WWE’s constant need to keep going back to the well with the McMahon’s, would Shane and Vince teaming-up to finally get rid of that pesky Rattlesnake really be out the realms of believability? No, it’s totally something we could see happening - and we’d love it.

Man in the Middle

Austin is no stranger to donning the stripes and if he felt like his actual in-ring days already had the perfect crescendo, then why not stick him the middle of a match that WWE are already desperate to book. If Roman Reigns does end up taking on The Rock at WrestleMania 39 in LA, then it’s a match that would need a big name to mediate between the two cousins.

They don’t come bigger than Stone Cold Steve Austin, who could rekindle the role he played at WrestleMania XX by being the special guest referee for the match. Making what will already be a huge main event, that little bit bigger. With the added bonus of mixing in Rock and Austin’s torrid history, twenty years after they main evented together at WrestleMania XIX. This stuff just writes itself.

Austin’s House

While it would have probably made more sense to have Steve Austin ‘host’ a WrestleMania in Dallas, he was far too busy kicking butt in the main event to hold the whole show together. A year on and having had so much fun at this year’s event, why not bring back old Stone Cold as the guest host for WrestleMania 39.

His name is mainstream enough to fit in with the ‘Hollywood’ theme - you could even acknowledge Austin’s ‘illustrious’ movie CV - and it’s something that Austin hasn’t already done in WWE. After all, who wouldn’t want to see a WrestleMania littered with segments of Stone Cold dishing out Stunners and drinking beer with a plethora of Superstars and famous faces.
