Liverpool find themselves in a good position in their bid to tie Mohamed Salah down to an extended Anfield contract as two of his biggest suitors are not able to lodge a big-money summer bid, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Salah has been a sensation since returning to the Premier League to join the Merseyside giants in a £34million deal from Roma close to five years ago, but there are doubts as to whether he will still be with the Reds by the time the upcoming transfer window slams shut.

What's the latest news involving Salah?

There is uncertainty surrounding Salah's long-term future as his £225,000-per-week Liverpool contract is due to expire in just over 12 months' time.

It means that the summer window may be one of the Reds' final opportunities to cash-in on the £90million-rated attacker as, if they fail to tempt him into penning an extension, Jurgen Klopp's side could see him walk away for nothing at the end of next season.

Salah has reportedly been looking to secure a fresh agreement worth £500,000-per-week, meaning he would comfortably become the highest-earner in Liverpool's history.

But, in an interview with FourFourTwo, the 29-year-old has insisted that negotiations over a new contract are not just about securing a huge pay increase.

The 82-cap Egypt international has also reiterated his desire to remain at Anfield and is not fazed by the possibility of entering the final 12 months of his deal.

What has Dean Jones said about Salah?

Jones believes Liverpool are in the driving seat and will persuade Salah to commit his long-term future to the club.

The transfer insider feels Real Madrid and Barcelona's inability to part with a considerable amount of cash has bolstered the chances of the attacker signing on the dotted line.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think the circumstances have really suited Liverpool up to this point.

"Salah has definitely been wavering over this deal but, ultimately, Real Madrid and Barcelona can't get him right now. That plays into Liverpool's hands.

"There has been talk of Juventus and stuff, but that is not really what he had in mind."

Would it come as a blow if Salah were to leave Liverpool?

Salah has shown how much of a threat he can be during his time on Liverpool's books, with him racking up close to 220 goal contributions.

He has enjoyed the most productive spell of his career at Anfield and is also the current campaign's leading goalscorer in the Premier League, underlining his importance to Klopp's charges.

Salah has won the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, Super Cup and Carabao Cup during his time on Merseyside. Klopp will fight to ensure Salah remains on the club's books beyond the end of the campaign.
