Liverpool are ‘going to be interested’ in West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice when the market reopens for business, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium in recent months after going from strength to strength under the tutelage of manager David Moyes.

What is the latest news involving Rice?

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all interested in bringing Rice in to strengthen the base of their engine rooms.

The report states that the England international has turned down two contract offers from West Ham and made it clear that his ambition is to win trophies and play Champions League football.

However, Rice still has just over two years remaining on his existing deal, but with the club having the option to extend that by a further 12 months, they are in a strong negotiating position.

Last March, Moyes insisted that the defensive-minded dynamo is worth ‘far, far more than £100m’, but it appears as though the Scottish tactician is determined to receive an even higher fee for his prized asset this time around.

“There was a bargain to be got with Declan at £100m,” Moyes said recently. “That bargain is now gone.”

The Daily Mail have claimed that West Ham are now set to demand a British-record £150m fee for Rice after accepting defeat in their attempts to tie him down to fresh terms.

What has Jones said about Rice?

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Liverpool have now also entered the race for Rice as Jurgen Klopp is said to be a ‘huge admirer’ of the immensely talented star.

It’s claimed that the Reds are eager to bring in a new midfielder and have identified the 6 foot 1 ace as their ‘number one target’, and Jones believes the Anfield outfit will ‘consider’ making a move.

He told GiveMeSport: “Of course, they're going to be interested in Declan Rice because if Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have had that player on their radar, then you kind of at least have got to consider whether you're going to need him.”

Do Liverpool need Rice?

Fabinho is currently the only natural holding midfielder on Liverpool’s books, and Klopp may be keen to bring in some cover and competition for the Brazilian.

The likes of Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita have also suffered with extensive injury issues, while James Milner is deep into the twilight of his career.

Therefore, a shake-up of Liverpool’s midfield may be due, and Rice could be the ideal candidate to carry on their current success.
