Newcastle United have enjoyed a brilliant 2022 thus far.

Towards the end of 2021, there was a genuine fear that the Magpies would end up being relegated to the Championship.

The team was underperforming massively under Steve Bruce and at Christmas, Newcastle were 19th in the Premier League with just 10 points on the board from 18 games.

Relegation was a distinct possibility, until Eddie Howe worked his magic - with some assistance from the January transfer window.

At the time of writing, Newcastle sit 11th in the Premier League with 40 points from 33 matches and a top half finish now appears to be firmly on the cards.

What a turnaround, eh?

Much of Newcastle's revival is down to their superb home form. Wednesday's hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace was their sixth in a row at St James' Park.

That's a seriously impressive record and it's a key part of the reason why the Magpies are second in the 2022 Premier League table as we head into gameweek 34, ahead of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 2022 Premier League table

Liverpool's Premier League record in 2022 is absolutely insane, isn't it? They're yet to lose this year and have conceded just six goals while scoring 33 themselves.

Despite playing fewer matches, Newcastle are ahead of Spurs - which is quite remarkable given the north London club's recent impressive form under Antonio Conte.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham are all comfortably outside the top four, while Aston Villa's struggles under Steven Gerrard are clear for all to see by the fact they currently sit in 17th place.

The less said about Everton, the better.

Only Watford have been worse than Frank Lampard's side in 2022, with Norwich one point ahead of them having played a game less.

No wonder the Toffees are in a relegation battle...
