Fans have lauded Barcelona Femení after they put on another dazzling display at the Camp Nou in front of a record crowd. Barcelona had broken the women’s football attendance record only weeks ago, as 91,553 watched the Catalonian side dismantle Real Madrid 5-2. But they went a step further on Friday, with 91,648 there to witness another emphatic display, this time against Wolfsburg. The score finished 5-1 in the end, with Jenni Hermoso, Aitana Bonmati, Caroline Graham-Hansen and Alexia Putellas all getting their names on the scoresheet. Once again, the atmosphere was mesmerising and reminiscent of the glory days of Barcelona’s men’s team last decade. And while Xavi criticised the attendance at the men’s Europa League quarter-final recently,  fans could not stop raving about Putellas and co.

Fans claim Barcelona women are better than men

Given Barcelona men’s lacklustre form of late, one fan emphasised that he felt the women were far more deserving of playing at Europe’s biggest stadium.

“Finally a worthy Barca team at Camp Nou,” they tweeted.

Others joked that Barcelona Women would beat Man United men right now.

Indeed, one fan wrote: "This Barcelona women's team can beat Manchester United men's team and that's not debatable."

Another went a step further to say the Femení would beat Xavi’s side as well.

They stressed: “Barcelona Women plays better than Barcelona Men, and it's not even banter.”

Another majestic performance

Barcelona Femení have been in unbeatable form so far this season and are yet to lose a game.

And though the majority had branded them strong favourites ahead of this tie with Wolfsburg, it was nonetheless unbelievable quite how easily they dismantled a side that are leading the German league at the moment.

From the first whistle, the Catalonian side were faultless. The opening goal came inside three minutes, the second inside 10. By half-time, it was 4-0 and could easily have been more.

Wolfsburg scrambled a consolation goal deep into the second half but not before Putellas notched her second of the game from the spot.

It was another breathtaking performance from the reigning European champions and fans highlighted just how much better they are than any other team on the planet right now.

One said: “Wolfsburg are a good side but this Barcelona side are just different class… nobody comes close.”

Meanwhile, another put: “This Barcelona women's side are absolutely incredible, they're going back to back in Europe.”

Another record attendance

To break the attendance record for a women’s football match twice in the space of a month is a staggering achievement.

It speaks volumes to not only the growth of women’s football but also quite how good this Barcelona side really are.

Fans are desperate to see Bonmati, Hermoso and Putellas in action and the team are gaining more fans with every passing game.

All in all, another historic night for women’s football, capped off with another historic performance.
