Tyson Fury won in spectacular fashion against Dillian Whyte last night and then announced his retirement from the sport of boxing.

If that was to be the end for the Gypsy King then it was some way to go out.

A sold out Wembley stadium was there to witness his homecoming on St. George's day, 94,500 fans cheered his name as he put on an absolute clinic against his compatriot the Body Snatcher.

After knocking out Whyte in the sixth round with a vicious uppercut, Fury's record now stands at 32 wins and a single draw from 33 fights.

And given the calibre of opponent Fury has faced in that time, including beating the biggest puncher in boxing history on two occasions, the man from Wythenshawe might just have elevated himself to the status of the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.

Needless to say, fans had a sinking feeling in their hearts when Fury suggested that this was to be his last professional dance in the ring:

Fury told BT Sport: "I promised my lovely wife Paris that after the third fight with Deontay Wilder that would be it and I meant it.

"I then got offered to fight at Wembley and I thought I owed it to the fans, to every person in the United Kingdom, to come here and fight.

"Now it's all done I have to be a man of my word. I think this is it, it might be the final curtain for The Gypsy King and what a way to go out!"

Wow, aged just 33 we really hope this isn't it for Fury's boxing career.

Never fear, though, because Fury did seem to all but confirm that an intriguing match-up with UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou could be on the horizon.

Following his post-match interview with BT Sport, Fury then ushered over Ngannou, who also happened to be in the ring, whilst live on ESPN.

"This is going to be one very special fight," Fury said live on air.

"It'll be something never before seen in the history of our sport. We're not talking two guys around 140lb, I'm 270lb, he's 270lb. It's going to be an explosive fight when it happens."

"I'm the boxing heavyweight champion, he's the UFC heavyweight champion, he's in great shape, look at the muscles on him."

Ngannou added: "We are going to find out who is the baddest motherf***er on the planet.

"It's going to be an hybrid fight with different type of rules, MMA gloves but in the ring, we'll mix it up and do it a little different."

Ngannou is just months away from finishing his existing UFC contract and the hard-hitting Cameroonian has long been touted a future boxing superstar.

Of course, with the bout still technically being under boxing rules, Fury would be an enormous favourite going into the fight.

Although, it would certainly be interesting to see him switch the 10 oz gloves for the four oz UFC alternative.
