Nemanja Matic bites back at Arsenal fans

As he took his seat in the dugout after being substituted, Matic reacted to Arsenal fans who appeared to be goading him about the scoreline.

The former Serbia international was seen pointing to himself while holding up three fingers.

He then made a zero sign to the Arsenal fans sat to his right.

Matic, channelling his inner Jose Mourinho, appeared to be saying to the Arsenal supporters that they had no titles compared to his three.

Presumably Matic was referring to those specific fans rather than Arsenal Football Club who, of course, have won the Premier League three times and have a total of 13 league titles.

The veteran midfielder officially won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, although he was also part of the Blues’ squad that won the 2009-10 league title and FA Cup.

He also won a league title with Benfica but will leave Old Trafford this summer empty-handed.

The closest he came to silverware with the Red Devils was the 2017-18 FA Cup (runner-up) and the 2020-21 Europa League (runner-up).

Matic recently announced plan to leave Man United

A £40 million signing from Chelsea in July 2017, Matic recently announced that he’ll leave Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign when his contract expires.

“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United,” he announced on social media. “I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision.

“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.

“I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”
