A new era is dawning at Manchester United after news broke that Erik ten Hag will be taking over the managerial reigns at the Premier League giants.

After a thoroughly forgettable season, the Ten Hag appointment has provided some much-needed hope after months of lurching from one disappointment to the next.

United showed their stark frailties in the last week with a humiliating loss at Liverpool before they simply rolled over at Arsenal.

The size of the task at hand will not have escaped Ten Hag, but is he aware of just how deeply set the issues are at United?

Well, if he wasn't before, outgoing boss Ralf Rangnick will make sure he's clued up with the Mirror reporting that the German has put together a massive dossier on the current squad.

According to the report, it does not make for easy reading with Rangnick said to be shocked at the lack of professionalism among the playing staff.

In the dossier, Rangnick is said to have branded the current squad as “selfish, over-inflated, lacking quality and too powerful”.

In fact, Rangnick is reported to claim that some players have openly ignored some of his instructions since he took charge leading him to label the current flock as "not fit for purpose".

Rangnick has also advised the hierarchy to abandon their policy of buying big name, short-term-fix players with the German even telling staff at the club that he agrees with Gary Neville's 'broken' assessment.

He simply doesn't rate the defence but believes the massive £80 million outlay the club coughed up for Harry Maguire is simply too big an investment to write him off just yet.

Rangnick has also been left in a state of disbelief at the lack of physicality and energy within the midfield, labelling that area as the one in most urgent need of attention.

Going forward, Rangnick believes the side is in desperate need of an out and out striker but the German is reportedly harbouring hopes that Ten Hag will get the best out of the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

In short, the former Schalke boss is not pulling his punches as he attempts to best prepare Ten Hag for the upcoming task.

United are in a mess, there can be no denying it, but if Ten Hag is given time to work and unravel the web of issues that have developed, then there is certainly hope for the future.
