Liverpool: Luis Diaz's Neymar-like first touch during Everton win

Liverpool's Diaz celebrates.

Luis Diaz has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water.

Snapped up from FC Porto to the tune of £37.5 million, Liverpool fans knew that they’d pulled off another sensational signing, but nobody could have predicted how instant his impact would be.

After all, you only have to look at players like Andrew Robertson and Fabinho to see that Jurgen Klopp likes to integrate even the best of signings into his first-team at a gradual pace.

Diaz shining for Liverpool

However, it would seem that Diaz is just so out of this world that Klopp has simply released the handbrake and allowed him to cause havoc in the famous red jersey.

It only feels like a fortnight ago that Diaz walked through the front door at Anfield, but he’s already an integral part of an attacking arsenal for Liverpool that is pretty much a joke at this stage.

The scintillating Colombian has already amassed four goals and two assists at Liverpool alongside Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

So, as Liverpool entered the final 30 minutes of their Merseyside derby clash with Everton on Sunday with the scores locked at 0-0, Diaz was an obvious and exciting option for Klopp to turn to.

Diaz’s outrageous first touch

The 25-year-old entered the fray in place of Mane and while it was actually Robertson who broke the deadlock, Liverpool’s new signing nevertheless made his presence known on his derby debut.

That’s because Diaz produced an outrageous first touch of the kind you almost only ever see from players like Neymar or Ronaldinho, killing the ball dead with a kind of a ‘mid-air rabona’.

All in all, it was the perfect way to get the Liverpool fans cheering on a derby day where Everton had made them suffer for long periods, so be sure to bask in Diaz’s brilliance down below:

Oh my word. That’s a thing of beauty.

The brilliance of Diaz

Not only did Diaz kill the ball with a flair and panache that made it look as though he was playing FIFA Street, but it directly led to a goalscoring opportunity at the Kop end just seconds later.

And that’s why it serves as the perfect demonstration of Diaz’s potential on Merseyside because he perfectly combines an entertaining brand of football with cold, hard end products.

It’s one thing to produce a Neymar-like touch that gets people retweeting in their thousands, but it’s another thing entirely to use that as a springboard into punishing your opponents.

The moral of the story? Diaz has a huge future ahead of him at Anfield.
