UFC sensation Gilbert Burns has offered to fight Dustin Poirier and welcome him to the welterweight division.

Over the course of the last few months, Gilbert Burns has strengthened his position as a real fan favourite within mixed martial arts. The Brazilian is easily one of the best 170 pounders on the planet but in addition to that, he also has the sort of ‘never say die’ attitude that fits perfectly alongside his babyface personality.

In his most recent outing at UFC 273, he went toe-to-toe with the man many feared to face - Khamzat Chimaev.

He may not have been able to get his hand raised but he did give ‘Borz’ all he could handle in what was easily a Fight of the Year contender.

After tasting defeat, Burns’ stock is somehow higher than it’s ever been with UFC president Dana White even promising him a big fight in his next contest.

A few different names have been thrown around but now, ‘Durinho’ has called his shot by responding to a tweet sent out by Dustin Poirier.

‘The Diamond’ is best known for his elite run at lightweight which included him winning the interim title and beating Conor McGregor twice.

The title hunt continues

Dustin Poirier has spoken many times about the elements of fighting he doesn’t enjoy, leading many to wonder whether or not he’s close to retiring. Alas, the 33-year-old still seems to have a real passion for the sport, which is why he’s been calling out Nate Diaz so much since his showdown against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269.

On that night, Poirier was unable to achieve his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion as he was submitted by ‘Do Bronx’ in their main event clash.

With talks seemingly stalling for the Diaz fight, Poirier made it clear via social media that all he wants is to get back into the Octagon.

There’s no way of knowing how Dustin will fare at welterweight until he actually makes the jump up. What we do know, though, is that it’d be near enough impossible for him to have a dull encounter with someone like Gilbert Burns.
