West Ham United have ‘got a long list of striker targets’ ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Hammers have long been linked to several forwards following the departure of Sebastien Haller but a new goalscorer is yet to arrive at the London Stadium.

What is the latest news involving West Ham?

Haller joined Dutch giants Ajax in a £20.25 million deal in January 2021, just 18 months after they splashed out £45m to secure his services from Eintracht Frankfurt.

That has left Michail Antonio as the only recognised number nine in David Moyes’ first-team squad ever since, although that hasn’t hindered their impressive rise on the pitch.

Since the beginning of 2020/21, the Jamaica international has registered 20 goals and 15 assists in 68 appearances across all competitions, firing West Ham to a sixth-place finish last term and the Europa League semi-finals this time around.

However, at 32, Antonio only has a limited time left at his current level, and Moyes has already shown his eagerness to add some cover and competition in attack.

The capital club reportedly had a club-record £60m bid turned down by Benfica for Darwin Nunez in January with the player eager to move to a side competing in the Champions League.

West Ham’s hierarchy are expected to target another striker when the market reopens, though, finally replacing the void that Haller left behind.

What has O’Rourke said about West Ham?

O’Rourke has revealed that West Ham have had a shortlist of potential targets ‘for quite a while now’ despite failing to ‘bring anyone in’.

In an exclusive interview, he told GiveMeSport: “We know West Ham have got a long list of striker targets. They've had one for quite a while now and have still not been able to bring anyone in.”

Who could West Ham sign?

According to SportBild’s head of football Christian Falk, West Ham are one of three sides interested in signing Union Berlin marksman Taiwo Awoniyi this summer.

The 24-year-old is said to have a €20 million (£16.8m) release clause in his contract and is also attracting admiring glances from Newcastle United and Southampton.

Having racked up 18 goals and four assists in 40 outings this term, it appears as though Awoniyi is set to be the subject of an intriguing transfer tussle amongst several Premier League sides.
