Rangers and Giovanni Van Bronckhorst could bring the Europa League back to Ibrox this season, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Having beaten Braga after extra-time earlier this month, Van Bronckhorst's side face a huge clash against Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in their first leg semi-final tie in Germany on Thursday.

What's the latest news involving Rangers?

Domestically, it's been a disappointing season for the Glasgow giants, who could all-but be out of the title race if they lose to Celtic this weekend, with the gap currently six points with four games left.

But Rangers are just 90 minutes away from claiming their first domestic cup since 2011 after beating their Old Firm rivals to reach the Scottish Cup final recently, while they're just three games away from European glory.

Van Bronckhorst's side are enjoying a fine run in the Europa League, already knocking out Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, and Braga, in the knockout stages, and will be hoping to move one step closer to reaching next month's showpiece in Seville over the next 10 days.

With Leipzig flying high in the Bundesliga, losing just twice in the league since Christmas, they are favourites for the tie.

But O'Rourke reckons that the red-hot atmosphere at Ibrox in the second leg could see them into a first European final since 2008.

What did O'Rourke say about Rangers?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a massive opportunity for Rangers, I don't think many people would have expected them to get to the semi finals of this competition.

"Obviously they've got a tough test against RB Leipzig, but I think Rangers have shown they can compete against the best and I think European nights at Ibrox have been really memorable for them.

"They've been great atmospheres and the players are really up for it. So, you wouldn't rule them out, maybe even an all-British final against West Ham, that would be a great occasion if that was to happen."

Would winning the Europa League mark a good season?

Second is last in Scotland, but European glory would eradicate their Scottish Premiership collapse and indicate an exceptional first campaign for Van Bronckhorst.

Not only would it be a first major trophy for the ex-Rangers defender, but it would crucially put them straight into the group stages of the Champions League, which would make them a more attractive proposition for potential summer additions and see them bank around £25m if they go all the way.
