Aston Villa should go "all guns out" to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma this summer, says journalist Josh Holland.

The Mali international continues to be linked with a move to Villa Park, and Holland thinks the Midlands club should be doing everything they can to sign him.

What is the latest news involving Bissouma?

According to The Telegraph, Villa will try to sign Bissouma from Brighton in the upcoming transfer window.

This comes after a failed £25m bid back in January, something manager Steven Gerrard publicly spoke about.

"It was well documented that we put in a bid for Bissouma at Brighton which was turned away, and we respected and appreciated that," the Villans boss said back in February.

Getting the 25-year-old out of the Amex in the winter window was always going to be a difficult task, with Sky Sports claiming that the Seagulls wanted as much as £50m for their midfielder, but that initial setback does not seem to have deterred Villa.

What has Holland said about Bissouma to Villa?

If Gerrard remains set on signing a new No.6 this summer, Holland believes Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have to go all out for Bissouma's signature.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "Bissouma is a quality CDM. That No.6 position has got Bissouma written all over it.

"If Gerrard feels that they desperately need a No.6, go all guns out on Bissouma, and then you've got two good options in Bissouma and Douglas Luiz and even [John] McGinn."

Will Bissouma be a Villa player next season?

While Villa were quite clearly keen on signing Bissouma in January, their priority for that midfield position right now seems to be Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips.

Multiple outlets, including The Telegraph, claim that the England international is emerging as Gerrard's No.1 target for that No.6 role.

However, Bissouma is approaching the final year of his contract, so signing him is likely to be an easier mission than bringing in Phillips.

Therefore, it would not be a shock if Villa made Bissouma their priority again, while The Telegraph has suggested that the Midlands club could actually try to add both the Brighton star and Phillips to their squad, with the future of Luiz uncertain.

All in all, given their interest in him during the January window and the fact that he is out of contract in 2023, there probably is a good chance that Bissouma will be playing in claret and blue next season.
