Tottenham: 'Conte an admirer' of 67-goal star compared to Gareth Bale

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is an admirer of Eintracht Frankfurt left wing-back Filip Kostic, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

With Sergio Reguilon’s future uncertain in north London, Spurs have recently been linked with a move for the highly-rated Serbia international.

What’s the latest news involving Kostic?

According to the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, the 29-year-old is on Conte’s list of targets this summer, with the Spurs boss hoping to sign up to six players when the window reopens for business.

Kostic, who was once compared to ex-Tottenham favourite Gareth Bale, is enjoying a wonderful campaign, chipping in with seven goals and 14 assists from left wing-back to help Frankfurt reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Do you know this obscure player Tottenham signed in the January transfer window?

One of his standout performances came in Frankfurt’s quarter-final game with Barcelona when he scored twice and assisted once to help the Bundesliga side claim a 3-2 victory at the Nou Camp.

A report from the Telegraph says that Conte will ask Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy to deliver him a centre-back, a right wing-back, two midfielders, a forward and a backup goalkeeper, but with Reguilon on the radar of Real Madrid and Barcelona, he might also need a left wing-back.

Therefore, The Athletic believe that a left wing-back remains a priority for the Italian manager, who’s a fan of the Frankfurt left-footer.

What did O’Rourke say about Kostic?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He would be quite cheap, and he’s someone that Spurs will be looking at.

“Antonio Conte is thought to be an admirer of him. He’s very good at attacking, he can provide goals and assists, and he would be an upgrade on what Spurs have got now.”

Do Tottenham need a new left wing-back?

Conte currently has two options in his squad in Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon.

But neither of those have managed to nail down a regular place in the side or show the required quality to become a top left wing-back in Conte’s system.

Between them, they’ve chipped in with just six goal contributions in 35 top-flight matches this season, with all but one of those coming from Reguilon.

Therefore, bringing in Kostic, who’s got experience playing further forward, highlighted by his impressive attacking output, which includes 67 career goals, would be a massive upgrade in a position that remains so important to Conte’s hopes of continuing to improve the squad.
