John Cena says that Theory is his favourite WWE Superstar

The accolades continue to reign down on WWE star Theory, with John Cena heaping praise on the new United States champion.

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that Vince McMahon sees the 24-year-old Theory as ‘the new John Cena’ and the first step on that illustrious ladder saw him win the US Title earlier this month by defeating Finn Balor.

The United States championship has been seen as a ‘mid-card’ belt for most of its time as part of WWE, however, for a short period it became synonymous with John Cena. His open challenge for the title promoted a string of memorable matches and opened the door for the likes of Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Kevin Owens to gain a bigger spotlight in WWE.

Cena held the title on five occasions, and was the first gold he held in WWE, so to mark his recent birthday on April 23rd, current US champ Theory sent a special message to the WWE legend. Taking to Twitter to apologise for being a better champion than him.

However, Cena quickly responded to the upstart by praising Theory and commenting that he has nothing to apologise for, unless in twenty years he hasn’t made the most of his natural talent.

Everyone understands that you have far more talent, strength, and gifts than I ever had. Don’t apologize for that. Ever. An apology should come 20 years from now if you fail to provide the EFFORT needed to turn your potential into your legacy. I hope that day never comes.

Cena hasn’t been seen in WWE since SummerSlam last year, where he was defeated by Roman Reigns in a match where he could have celebrated a record-breaking seventeenth world championship.

The interaction between him and Theory though, has already got fans speculating that a match between the two could be on the horizon, possibly at WrestleMania next year in California.
