Cross-play is something that FIFA players have been desperately wanting for some time now. The divide between XBOX and PlayStation has meant that for years gone by players were unable to take each other on and prove who was the better FIFA player once and for all.

Now players will be able to connect no matter what the device, which is a really big step forward for the franchise. But as previously mentioned, a leak has suggested that cross-play codes have been added to FIFA 22, so we could be seeing this revolutionary development sooner than we think.

As leaked by FUT Scoreboard - here is the evidence of cross-play being added into the FIFA 22 codes.

Now, this may look like a load of muddled up text, but what this is evidence of is that FIFA 22 will trial cross-play, eventually leading up to a full working model when FIFA 23 is eventually released.

This seems like a sensible idea from EA themselves as it gives them a brief trial period to work out any problems they'll encounter before they release it onto a completely new title.

In FIFA 22 it's imagined that cross-play will only affect gameplay. By this, we mean that cross-play will only be apparent when matching up against other players. It's unbeknown whether it will feature in FIFA Ultimate Team or just in other modes - but all will surely be revealed in due time.

FIFA 23 however will explore the idea of other forms of cross-play, with the most notable being that of having a joint market on FIFA Ultimate Team. Right now there's a separate market for XBOX, Playstation and Origin - but cross-play would allow them to all merge into one.

This would be an extremely exciting development as it would mean one giant market where prices would fluctuate for all, not just depending on the device.
