Crystal Palace may miss out on luring Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah to Selhurst Park as the Eagles would be due to part with a compensation fee, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Patrick Vieira was appointed as the south Londoners' manager last summer and it appears he is looking to freshen up his squad in the upcoming transfer window.

What's the latest news involving Nketiah?

According to The Times, Nketiah is weighing up offers from Palace and Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of moving onto pastures new at the end of the season.

The report suggests Arsenal have not given up hope of tying the frontman down to a new deal, but time is running out as his £45,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer.

However, remaining at the Emirates Stadium appears to be unlikely as Nketiah told The Beautiful Game Podcast that he has resisted offers of fresh terms due to being frustrated by a lack of opportunities in north London.

Palace boss Patrick Vieira is clearly a long-term admirer of Nketiah as he targeted the 22-year-old before baulking at the Gunners' £20million valuation and opting to sign Odsonne Edouard instead last summer.

The Eagles also saw two bids turned down by Arsenal during the January transfer window, underlining the fact that Vieira has been keen to acquire the £9million-rated ace.

What has Tom Barclay said about Nketiah?

Despite continued interest, Barclay believes Palace may fail to sign Nketiah due to them owing Arsenal a compensation fee.

As a result, the journalist feels the Gunners frontman could head overseas instead of remaining in the Premier League.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: "From what I'm told, it might be more likely that a move abroad could be a possibility.

"He would be available on a free transfer if he goes abroad, whereas Arsenal would be due compensation from teams in England and that might put a bit of a sway on it.

"On The Beautiful Game Podcast, Nketiah suggested that he is probably likely to leave Arsenal because he is looking for more game-time. We will have to wait and see what happens."

Why is Nketiah of interest to Palace?

Nketiah has scored 25 goals during the early stages of his senior club career, emphasising that he would be a threat in the final third of the pitch if he were to join Palace.

He has scored seven goals this season and grabbed a brace in Arsenal's London derby win over Chelsea last week.

That performance led to Arteta admitting he has been 'unfair' in his treatment of Nketiah and should have given the academy product more opportunities to shine.
