The Premier League has always been home to some of the greatest footballers the planet has to offer.Throughout the years, English pitches have been graced by some supreme talent, the likes of which may never be seen again. However, while those once-in-a-lifetime stars hogged the limelight, the English top-flight also quietly played host to some of the most underrated ballers around. That, perhaps, is no more exemplified than when it comes to Spanish maestro, Juan Mata.Mata made the move from Valencia to Chelsea for just £23.5 million in 2011 and immediately hit the ground running. He took to the famous Chelsea blue like a duck to water and quickly established himself as one of the most gifted players in the league. But just how gifted was he?Well, riding to our aid to answer that question is a superb highlights montage packed full of glorious Mata moments from his time in west London.LONDON, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 29: Chelsea's Juan Mata celebrates scoring Chelsea's second goal of the match during the Barclays Premier League match between Arsenal and Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on September 29, 2012 in London, England. (Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)From brilliant finishes, to nigh-on impossible passes, to the cheekiest little dribbles you could ever hope to see, the package perfectly sums up just how good Mata was at Chelsea. His vision was unmatched, his unerring ability to dribble his way out of tight spaces superb and, finally, he had a ruthless eye for goal. His return of 32 and 58 assists in 135 appearances for the club speaks for itself. You can check out the footage of that brilliant Chelsea spell below:

Incredible - every time you think it can't get any better, it does.

Mata at his best was pure poetry in motion and so it is baffling to see what became of him after he made the move to Manchester United.

As the tweet says, he had the foundation to become an all-time Premier League great but was never able to kick on at Old Trafford.

Now, as he prepares to leave the club at the end of the season, we can only look back and think what might have been for the Spaniard.

At least we'll always have the memories of those heady Chelsea days.
