Manchester City could offload other players before getting rid of Gabriel Jesus, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Brazilian is currently being linked with a move away from the Citizens amid talk of Erling Haaland joining the club, but Jones does not think he is the leading candidate to make way for the Borussia Dortmund striker.

What is the latest news involving Jesus?

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Jesus in the upcoming transfer window.

This comes after the Daily Mail reported that City have a deal in place to bring Haaland to the Etihad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Arsenal need a new No.9, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract in the summer, while Jesus has not been an automatic starter under Pep Guardiola this term, so a move could make sense.

The 25-year-old forward has made less than 20 starts in the current Premier League campaign despite being the closest thing to a recognised striker in City's squad.

What has Jones said about Jesus?

While Jesus is being touted for an exit, Jones does not think he is the first attacker City want to get rid of and can envision him playing alongside Haaland should the Norway international arrive at the Etihad.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "He's been linked with a transfer for the last three years and hasn't gone. I think that even if they signed Haaland, it would be worth keeping Jesus.

"He's one of those players that is happier to fit around other players. He would fit around Haaland; he's happy to play wide. I could see other players in that frontline being offloaded actually before him."

Should City sell Jesus this summer?

No. Haaland arriving does not necessarily have to force Jesus out. While the Brazil international is a centre-forward by trade, he has spent a lot of his time at City playing on the flank.

Indeed, this season he has made over 15 appearances as a winger, so the £45m-rated star and Haaland should be able to coexist in the same team.

From Jesus' point of view, he may want to leave the Etihad regardless of whether City sign a new No.9 or not, as he is already battling for a starting position. But if the ball is in the Citizens' court, they should probably be trying to keep hold of a player who has scored a lot of goals for them.
