Liverpool striker Divock Origi could be persuaded to stay at Anfield if Jurgen Klopp makes it clear that he still figures in his plans, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The end of the season may only be a matter of weeks away, but there are still question marks over where Origi will be plying his trade next term.

What's the latest news involving Origi?

There are doubts over whether Origi will still be on Merseyside in the not-too-distant future as his £82,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer.

That has put some of European football's biggest clubs on red alert and, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, the 27-year-old is on the brink of securing a move to AC Milan.

The report suggests the 32-cap Belgium international, who has been able to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas suitors since the turn of the year, could confirm that he will head to the San Siro as soon as this week.

Origi may have been restricted to just 563 minutes of action this season, but he made an impact by finding the back of the net in the 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton at the weekend.

His game-changing performance led to boss Klopp hailing Origi as a 'legend', 'world-class striker' and Liverpool's 'best finisher'.

What has Dean Jones said about Origi?

Jones believes a number of clubs will be hoping to secure Origi's services, even though AC Milan appear to be the frontrunners.

However, the transfer insider feels the 6'1 star, who has scored 64 goals over the course of his club career, could still opt to pen an extended contract in order to remain with Liverpool.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "There's loads of clubs that are a good potential fit for Origi, but I think it's also going to depend on what he wants at this stage of his career.

"Whatever you say or think of him and whether he's good enough to be in that Liverpool team, he has had some massive moments in a Liverpool shirt and he continues to have them.

"Jurgen Klopp absolutely loves him. If Klopp tells him he still has a role for him in that squad, I'd be surprised to see him leave."

How has Origi performed for Liverpool?

Not only does Origi have a formidable record against arch-rivals Everton, having scored against them six times in 12 outings, but he has also found the back of the net in key fixtures.

He bagged a brace as Liverpool overturned a three-goal first leg deficit to overcome Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals back in 2019, while he also went on to add his name to the scoresheet in the final win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Origi - who has now scored 41 goals for the Reds - has won five pieces of silverware during his time on Merseyside.
