Manchester United '100% want' Declan Rice but incoming boss Erik ten Hag could be thwarted in his attempts to lure the West Ham United star to Old Trafford due to his hefty price tag, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Current Ajax chief ten Hag is set to take charge of the Red Devils at the end of the season and it appears he is keen to make Rice one of his first signings.

What's the latest news involving Rice?

With ten Hag expected to oversee an overhaul of the Manchester United squad after taking over from interim manager Ralf Rangnick, it is understood that Rice features high on the Dutchman's list of transfer targets heading into the summer.

The Red Devils' hopes of sealing a deal which would take the midfielder to Old Trafford may have been boosted after it was revealed that Rice has turned down a third contract offer from West Ham and is open to departing the London Stadium at the end of the season.

As a result, Manchester City have been put on red alert and could go head-to-head with their cross-city rivals for his signature, while it was previously reported that Rice would prefer to rejoin former club Chelsea if he were to leave the Hammers.

West Ham boss David Moyes has attempted to deter suitors from making big-money bids by slapping a £150million price tag on Rice.

The east Londoners are in the driving seat when it comes to negotiations as the 23-year-old's £62,000-per-week deal still has more than two years remaining and the Hammers also hold an option of extending the agreement by 12 months.

What has Dean Jones said about Rice?

Jones understands that Manchester United are eager to sign Rice ahead of ten Hag's first season at the helm.

However, the transfer insider fears a deal may not be possible due to West Ham seeking upwards of £150million.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "They 100% want Declan Rice, but the valuation that West Ham have on him is a hindrance right now because that would blow their entire budget for the summer.

"While they do want a midfielder, that can't just be it."

Why is Rice of interest to Man United?

Rice clearly has plenty of ability and was described by Steven Gerrard as 'superb' after West Ham overcame his Aston Villa side last month.

He also has ambition after making it clear that he has an ‘urgent’ desire to play in the Champions League and believes he is ‘one of the established top players around the world’.

Despite still being in the early stages of his career, Rice has already made 189 West Ham appearances and won 29 international caps for England.

He has been described as 'world-class', so there is no doubting that Rice would be an exciting addition to Manchester United's ranks.
