Boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez has laughed off an insult from Kamaru Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz as he prepares to move on from the feud.

The last few months have seen Kamaru Usman and his team push harder for a fight with Canelo Alvarez than most of his boxing rivals. It makes sense, given the payday that ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ would receive from such a match-up, but it’s the kind of bout that has left many concerned for the overall safety of Usman if it actually goes ahead.

A recent quote from Canelo himself appeared to indicate that he won’t be pursuing the fight and instead, will choose to focus on trying to become an undisputed world champion all over again in a new weight class.

Unfortunately, in the eyes of Ali Abdelaziz, this decision made him a ‘chicken’ for supposedly ducking the challenge of Usman.

When confronted with this theory on Twitter, the Mexican star couldn’t help but laugh.

A parade of fans and critics have made sure to let Abdelaziz know what they think of him in the comments, as tends to be the case whenever he starts arguing with fighters.

The next step

Canelo Alvarez and Kamaru Usman are splitting off in different directions and that’s clear for pretty much everyone to see.

If they do face off, they’ll both have to go through their fair share of challenges beforehand with Canelo’s next outing coming on May 7.

On that night, he’ll go head to head with Dmitry Bivol with the WBA light heavyweight title being on the line. Meanwhile, Kamaru Usman is expected to defend the UFC welterweight belt later this summer during International Fight Week.

His opponent, Leon Edwards, has been chomping at the bit to get his hands on Usman again, although the majority of pundits consider Kamaru to be the overwhelming favourite.

In terms of crossover fights the more obvious boxing vs MMA showdown appears to be brewing between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou.

They shared the ring together last weekend and in doing so, moved one giant step closer to getting an exhibition match in the diary.
