Boxing sensation Amanda Serrano has admitted that her superfight against Katie Taylor âmeans everythingâ this weekend.
After years of anticipation, Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will finally meet on Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden. The contest is being billed as one of the biggest fights in the history of womenâs boxing, and with just a few days to go until they make the walk, itâs hard to disagree.
Taylor will be putting her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles on the line whereas Serrano will hope to add to her incredible legacy of holding nine major world titles across seven different weight classes.
With a generational showdown such as this one, you can imagine thereâs a great deal of tension in the air.
For Serrano, though, sheâs just grateful for the chance to go out there and tear the house down in the worldâs most famous arena.
âIt means everything, you know, I worked so hard,â Serrano told The Guardian.
âI couldnât ask for a better partner than Katie Taylor â sheâs well-deserving, sheâs an Olympic gold medalist and undisputed champion. You have pound-for-pound No 1, No 2, going at it. Iâm excited to see whoâs the best.â
âI just got to stick to the game plan and listen to my corner, and make sure that I go out there, do and be Amanda Serrano. And thatâs how I secure the victory. Katie, sheâs Katie Taylor, but you know, styles make fights, she might come a different way when she gets punched in the face fighting me.â
Serrano heads into Saturday with a 42-1-1 pro record with Taylor at 20-0.
The promoter battle
One of the other storylines heading into this bout revolves around Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul - aka the two main promoters from Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions.
Theyâve been there every step of the way to ensure Taylor and Serrano get the kind of attention and credit they deserve ahead of such a mammoth night of boxing.
Who knows, maybe if all goes well, this wonât be the last time Hearn and Paul work together.
