Manchester United fans could see Andreas Pereira come in from the cold as incoming manager Erik ten Hag may offer the central midfielder an opportunity to revive his Old Trafford career, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Ten Hag has agreed to move into the Red Devils' hot seat at the end of the season, when he will walk away from current employers Ajax.

What's the latest news involving Pereira?

With his Old Trafford opportunities limited, Pereira completed a season-long loan switch to Brazilian outfit Flamengo last August.

Although it initially looked as though a permanent move could be arranged, Brazilian media outlet IG Esporte have revealed the transfer has collapsed.

The report suggests Flamengo have pulled out of the deal due to the one-cap Brazil international's recent downturn in form and legal complications regarding a 75 per cent part-ownership of the player.

Although that has led to question marks over where Pereira's long-term future lies, the 26-year-old has reportedly been informed by football director John Murtough that ten Hag is keen to have him back at Manchester United in the summer.

Pereira is someone ten Hag knows well, having previously worked together at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Pereira?

O'Rourke believes ten Hag's appointment could present Pereira with an opportunity to reignite his career at Manchester United.

The journalist feels central midfield is a position where the incoming Dutch boss could look for fresh options.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "There is talk that Andreas Pereira might come back into the frame after being loaned out to Flamengo.

"He's worked under ten Hag previously also, in Holland, so there is an opportunity there.

"Midfield could be an area that Manchester United need to strengthen in the summer with players expected to leave Old Trafford."

How has Pereira's Man United career gone so far?

Pereira may be spending the season thousands of miles away from Old Trafford and have become a forgotten man, but he has made 75 appearances for Manchester United.

He has racked up four goals and five assists in that time, while he has also shown he is capable of being a threat in the final third of the pitch while featuring for the Red Devils' youth outfits.

Pereira has won the FA Cup during his spell in the red half of Manchester and could be offered more opportunities to shine due to the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata seeing their respective contracts expire at the end of the campaign.
