Wolves "definitely" have Reims youngster Hugo Ekitike on their radar, according to transfer insider Pete O'Rourke.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to Molineux this summer, with Bruno Lage set to make bringing in a new striker a priority.

What is the latest news involving Ekitike?

According to The Telegraph, Wolves have been scouting Ekitike but face serious competition from other clubs if they do try to sign him.

One of those clubs is likely to include Premier League rivals Newcastle United, who tried to buy the French forward in the last transfer window.

In January, Sky Sports reported that the Magpies had agreed a £33m deal with Reims for Ekitike, only for him to remain at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in the end.

As well as Wolves and Newcastle, European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be interested in the France youth international.

What has O'Rourke said about Ekitike to Wolves?

O'Rourke has told GIVEMESPORT that Wolves are indeed keen on bringing Ekitike to Molineux this summer and have put signing a striker on the top of their list.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: "Wolves have made a new forward a top priority this summer, so Ekitike is definitely somebody on their radar.

"It could be an interesting fight to see who does manage to lure Ekitike away from Reims this summer. It does seem that Wolves are right in there right now."

Why have Wolves made signing a new forward a priority?

Simply put, they have not scored enough goals this season. Despite sitting comfortably in the top 10, Lage's men have one of the worst records for goals scored in the Premier League.

Away from Raul Jimenez, the Wolves boss also does not have too many other options, which is why a move for Ekitike makes sense.

Ekitike really impressed in the first half of the season, scoring eight Ligue 1 goals for Reims before the new year, while GMS has also been told that there is a belief in the game that he will emerge as one of the best forwards in Europe within the next few years.

Considering that, landing the Reims gem could be tricky for Wolves, so Lage may end up having to look elsewhere.

In terms of alternatives, Brentford's Ivan Toney has been mentioned, so that could be another option.

Ultimately, be it Ekitike, Toney or someone else, Wolves need to sign a new centre-forward ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
