Wolves: Molineux 'connections could facilitate' £15m summer deal

Wolverhampton Wanderers may succeed in their pursuit of Goncalo Guedes thanks to behind the scenes ‘connections’ at Molineux, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The West Midlanders are still challenging for a European qualification spot heading into the final weeks of the campaign, but it appears head coach Bruno Lage has already turned his attentions towards securing reinforcements during the summer transfer window.

What’s the latest news involving Guedes?

According to The Telegraph, Wolves are set to make a move for Valencia star Guedes after Lage has prioritised the signing of a new centre forward.

The report suggests the 29-cap Portugal international is high on a shortlist of targets and a deal could be struck if a bid in the region of £15million is tabled.

Guedes is set to enter the final 12 months of his Valencia contract, potentially boosting Wolves’ chances of getting their man.

Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is the 25-year-old’s representative and that could also play into the Molineux outfit’s hands.

That is because Gestifute – Mendes’ agency – also represent Wolves stars Jose Sa, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Nelson Semedo, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence and Francisco Trincao.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Guedes?

O’Rourke believes relationships which have been built behind the scenes could prove crucial in Wolves attempting to lure Guedes to the Premier League.

The journalist feels Lage, who was appointed as the West Midlands outfit’s boss last summer, will have done his homework on the attacker.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously, the good connections might help facilitate this deal.

“With the player being Portuguese and the Jorge Mendes link, Bruno Lage will know all about Guedes from having seen him on several occasions and the Portuguese connections.”

Why is Guedes of interest to Wolves?

Although Wolves are still in contention to secure European football for next season, they are the lowest scorers in the Premier League’s top 10.

Guedes could go a long way towards solving that problem as he has found the back of the net 13 times and provided a further six assists since the season got underway.

That has allowed the former Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica ace to take his senior club career total to 47 goals, emphasising that he is a threat in the final third of the pitch.

Guedes would also bring a winning mentality to Molineux as he has got his hands on top flight titles and domestic cups in his homeland of Portugal and France, while he also clinched the Copa del Rey with current employers Valencia and enjoyed international glory in the Nations League.
