Everton will need at least nine points from their final six games to stay in the Premier League, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Toffees have been an ever-present in the Premier League since its inception in 1992, but they are in significant danger of being relegated this term.

What is the current situation at the bottom of the league?

Heading into the final weeks of the season, it looks like Norwich and Watford are already doomed as they find themselves 10 and nine points adrift of safety, respectively.

The final relegation spot is far from decided, though. Everton currently occupy 18th place, having only won three league games since the turn of the year.

They are two points behind Burnley, although they have a game in hand on the Clarets, while Leeds are five points above the bottom three.

What has Brown said about Everton's survival hopes?

Frank Lampard's side have six matches to get themselves out of trouble. Ahead of the final run-in, Brown believes the Merseyside club may need as many as 10 points from these fixtures to survive.

When asked about a potential points tally that could keep Everton up, Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they’re going to need nine or 10 more, at least. Looking at the table, 38/39 might be enough. Because, can Watford and Burnley win enough games to get above that, get enough points to get above that? That’s the big question.

“Leeds have 34 at the moment, so they would only need four or five points to get above that total. But, I think for two teams to get above you on that would be unlikely. So, that might be enough.”

Can Everton get the points they need to stay up?

For Everton to get 10 points from their remaining games, they would need to pick up three wins and a draw. This is a tough ask, considering they have only won three matches in the opening four months of the year.

Assessing Everton's run-in, they still have Chelsea and Arsenal to play - two sides who are still battling to finish in the top four. Getting points from either of these games would be a bonus.

However, in between those fixtures they have four far more winnable matches. Lampard's men face trips to Leicester and Watford, while they still have to host Brentford and Crystal Palace.

Leicester, Brentford and Crystal Palace all arguably have very little left to play for, and Watford may already be relegated by the time they play Everton.

Therefore, these are the games that Everton should be targeting for victories, and if they can pick up positive results, this could be enough to get them out of the relegation zone.
