Leeds: 18 y/o rising star tipped to 'come onto the radar' at Elland Road

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch

Leeds United will have Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay on their ‘radar’ ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 18-year-old has gone from strength to strength since establishing himself in the first-team squad at Pittodrie this season and could earn a move away from his boyhood club as a result.

What is the latest news involving Ramsay?

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are one of the sides interested in prising Ramsay away from the Dons, while Premier League giants Liverpool are also said to be keen on his signature.

A recent report from the Daily Record, meanwhile, also lists Leicester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Italian outfit Bologna amongst his potential suitors.

Ramsay made his senior debut towards the end of last term and has cemented his spot in the Aberdeen starting XI during the current campaign, registering one goal and nine assists in 32 appearances.

Former manager Stephen Glass confirmed that there ‘definitely been enquiries’ for the Scotland Under-21 international in January due to his eye-catching displays.

And Ramsay’s impressive form has been rewarded after he was recently named the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year for 2021/22.

What has O’Rourke said about Ramsay?

O’Rourke believes Ramsay will be a player who Leeds are closely monitoring the progress of, although reckons the talented teenager will have a ‘massive price tag’.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think he would come onto the radar for Leeds. There will be a massive price tag, he’s a very highly-rated young player, and he’s done very well up in Scotland with Aberdeen.

“There’s been the likes of Liverpool, who have been linked with him, Aston Villa, a few other clubs as well.”

Would Ramsay be a good signing for Leeds?

Ramsay has showcased his attacking prowess on a number of occasions this season, consistently providing a threat from his right-back position.

As per WhoScored, the youngster has ranked in the top two amongst his Aberdeen teammates for both crosses and key passes in the Scottish Premiership this season, averaging 1.8 and 1.9 per game, respectively.

Do you know this obscure player Leeds signed in the January transfer window?

Luke Ayling is currently the only natural right-sided full-back in Leeds’ setup, although utility man Stuart Dallas can cover there, meaning new manager Jesse Marsch may be on the search for some extra competition.

Fending off the competition for Ramsay’s signature will be a tricky task, though, but the lure of regular minutes in the Premier League may work in the Elland Road outfit’s favour.
