Roy Keane's sarcastic comment about Ronaldo being the problem after Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea is gold

Roy Keane amused fans with a tongue-in-cheek comment about Cristiano Ronaldo being a problem for Manchester United after the 37-year-old forward scored the equaliser against Chelsea on Thursday night.

Marcos Alonso broke the deadlock for Chelsea at Old Trafford on the hour-mark but Ronaldo earned a point for the hosts with an excellent finish minutes later.

This was the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s 17th Premier League goal of the campaign. Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has netted more goals in England’s top division this season.

In 36 games across all competitions this term, Ronaldo has scored 23 goals.

When you consider his age and the fact that he’s playing for arguably the worst Manchester United team of the Premier League era, it’s hard not to be impressed with his stats.

There’s been plenty of debate since Ronaldo completed his emotional return to Old Trafford about whether he’s caused more problems than solutions for the Red Devils.

There are also question marks over his future. It’s unclear how incoming manager Erik ten Hag plans on using Ronaldo next season – if at all.

Roy Keane: Ronaldo is a such a big problem for United!

But after rescuing another point for United on Thursday evening, Ronaldo’s former teammate Keane scoffed at claims that the legendary No. 7 is a problem.

“He’s such a big problem for United,” Keane said. “Scoring goals week in, week out. It’s not good.”

Keane has such a dry sense of humour that some people on social media thought he was actually being serious.

But many others got the joke:

Roy Keane: Ronaldo could have scored 50 goals for Chelsea

Keane also said that Ronaldo is “the greatest at the hardest part of the game: putting the ball in the back of the net”.

The Irishman believes Ronaldo could have scored 50 goals this season if he was playing for Chelsea.

Ronaldo’s United contract expires in June 2023, although the club do have the option to extend this by a further year.
