Celtic tipped to wrap up £10m Parkhead deal 'as soon as possible'

Celtic should look to get a permanent deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers sorted ‘as soon as possible’ because increasing Premier League interest could turn the Parkhead favourite’s head, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Carter-Vickers joined the Bhoys on a season-long loan from Spurs on deadline day of last summer’s transfer window, but the Scottish Premiership giants are eager to see him remain in Glasgow beyond the end of the campaign.

What’s the latest news involving Carter-Vickers?

According to American media outlet SBI Soccer, Celtic are in advanced talks over a permanent deal for Carter-Vickers.

The report suggests Premier League sides Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Watford have also expressed an interest in the eight-cap United States international, but the Bhoys remain in pole position to strike a deal worth up to £10million with add-ons.

Burnley have joined the race for Carter-Vickers’ signature as well, with the 24-year-old’s performances since heading north of the border clearly catching the eye.

Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson has been put in charge of negotiating the central defender’s permanent switch to Parkhead despite manager Ange Postecoglou being branded the ‘chairman of the board in terms of football recruitment’ by owner Dermot Desmond.

It is understood that those in Carter-Vickers’ camp believe remaining at Celtic is the best option as, after enjoying the finest spell of his career, he could take his game to the next level.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Carter-Vickers?

O’Rourke believes it could be difficult for Celtic to persuade Carter-Vickers to remain at Parkhead because of extensive interest from clubs in the English top flight.

As a result, the journalist feels the Bhoys need to act quickly in order to beat rivals south of the border to the punch.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “The potential obstacle for Celtic is rival interest from Premier League clubs as a few of them might be interested in the USA international as well.

“For Celtic, once the season’s finished, I think they will be smart to try and get this deal done as soon as possible.”

How has Carter-Vickers performed so far this season?

How well Carter-Vickers has performed is emphasised by the fact that Celtic icon Chris Sutton was outraged when the centre-half was not among the nominees for the Scottish Premiership’s PFA Player of the Year award, with the former striker suggesting the loanee has been ‘the best player in Scotland this season’.

Carter-Vickers has become a key cog in the Bhoys’ backline and only missed 90 minutes of top flight action since his move.

Four goals have also proved crucial as Celtic close in on the Scottish Premiership title, while he has already got his hands on the Scottish League Cup.
