Manchester United may persuade Jesse Lingard to stay at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag could give the attacking midfielder 'one more chance to save his career', according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Lingard has been on the Red Devils' books since the age of seven, but there are serious question marks over where his long-term future lies.

What's the latest news involving Lingard?

As it stands, Lingard's lengthy spell at Manchester United is set to end in a matter of weeks as his £80,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer.

According to 90min, that has led to Newcastle United already placing a lucrative contract offer on the table as they look to lure the 29-year-old to St James' Park.

The report suggests West Ham United have also put forward a proposal for the 32-cap England international, while Atletico Madrid and AC Milan have not been ruled out of the running.

Lingard has been made to contend with few opportunities this season, with him enjoying less than 600 minutes on the pitch.

But a new era is beckoning at Old Trafford as ten Hag, who is currently at the Ajax helm, will take charge of Manchester United at the end of the season.

What has Dean Jones said about Lingard?

Jones believes ten Hag could persuade Lingard to put pen-to-paper and remain at his boyhood club.

The transfer insider feels the bond the creative midfielder has struck up with Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined from Borussia Dortmund and Juventus respectively last summer, could prove to be crucial.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "There were moments when I was watching him against Norwich when I was thinking this is what United need.

"They need a player that cares, they need a player that can produce something special and he does look like he's on the same wavelength as a lot of those top players in that team, like Sancho and Ronaldo. I think he links up well with those guys and I think ten Hag might appreciate that.

"He's United through and through, been there since he was a kid and knows everybody inside out. Sometimes you need to embrace things like that. United haven't done that in the past year or so and maybe that's been part of their decline. I think Jesse's got one more chance to save his career."

How has Lingard performed for Man United?

Lingard has made more than 230 appearances and is closing in on 60 goal contributions for Manchester United.

He has enjoyed success during his time on the Red Devils' books, emphasised by the fact he has got his hands on the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Europa League and Community Shield.

It comes after he came through the club's ranks, with him showing his talent by finding the back of the net 17 times and chipping in with a further 20 assists for the under-23s.
