Jurgen Klopp speaks impeccable English.

From the moment that the German opened his mouth during his first ever Liverpool press conference, it couldn't have been clearer that he had a brilliant command of the English language.

Joking with reporters from the off and branding himself as the 'Normal One', Klopp was bang on the money with his English ahead of what proved to be his first coaching job outside of Germany.

Managers speaking English

In fact, it's sometimes taken for granted that managers like Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Ralf Rangnick and so on have such a vast vocabulary in English from the moment that they step off the plane.

Granted, it might be one of the most widely-spoken languages on the entire planet, but that still doesn't make it any easier for people who have grown up speaking a different mother tongue to pick it up.

After all, the English language can be such a minefield of contradictions and nonsensical rules that even the most adept of non-native speakers can trip up from time to time.

From silent letters to baffling pronunciations and silly idioms to colloquial slang, it's a wonder that the likes of Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel aren't tripping over their tongues every ten seconds.

Confusing 'brain fog' with 'brain f***'

But the odd, innocent error does creep in every now and again with Klopp producing a particularly amusing example while speaking with reporters around a Liverpool press conference this week.

That's because footage has emerged of Klopp hearing someone in the room say what he thought was 'brainf***' when it was in fact the much less X-rated 'brain fog'.

In a clip corroborated by AS and Sky Sports Germany, Klopp responded to what he thought had been the F-bomb by quipping: “Why can everybody say that word and if I say it, it’s not okay?”

Klopp makes innocent error

And when Klopp relayed that he had heard the comment as 'brainf***', the room couldn't help breaking out into laughter as the person confirmed that it was simply a swear-free expression of being confused.

It was a more than understandable mistake from Klopp who conceded that both words sounded exactly the same to his ear, but you can nevertheless see why the reporters couldn't help cracking a smile.

And being the brilliant sport that he is, the Liverpool boss took the mix-up in good humour to produce an equally charming and amusing moment that you can check out down below:

It happens to the best of us, Jurgen.

A rare mistake from Klopp

We can't even begin to imagine how tough it must be to speak to the British media week in, week out using a language that isn't your own, so it's remarkable that Klopp has made so few errors across seven years.

The vast majority of English natives would be absolutely useless taking on another language if they started working abroad, but Klopp is yet another example of someone born on the continent who makes it look easy.

Besides, there have even been instances where Klopp has gone one step further and not only showed off his knowledge of English, but also the wonderful world of the 'Scouse' dialect.

However, he might just want to consolidate his new knowledge on the word 'fog' just in case the morning's weather forecasts start to sound far filthier than they're intending to be...
