Snooker: Footage of Ronnie O'Sullivan fuming with the referee in WSC final

Ronnie O'Sullivan argues with the referee

The 2022 World Snooker Championships at The Crucible have been a truly blockbuster affair.

Right from the off we have been treated to some truly magical snooker from some bona-fide legends who have been slugging it out with the new generation of talent.

However, by the conclusion, the cream had risen to the top as we sat back in delight to enjoy one of the finest semi-final line-ups you could ever hope to see.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Williams and John Higgins – a quartet of the biggest names in the game – put on quite a show as they battled it out for a place in the final.

It would be the wiley campaigner in O’Sullivan, and the young-gun that is Trump who would book their place in what promised to be an explosive final – and it didn’t disappoint.

O’Sullivan will take a lead going into the bank holiday Monday session following some brilliant play – a ‘cocked hat’ to pot a black no less.

However, the Sunday session wasn’t without its drama, and, while fans around the world enjoyed the standard of snooker on show, they might not have enjoyed the ugly scenes that descended towards the close of the session.

O’Sullivan quickly became embroiled in a heated argument with the referee before Trump also aired his grievances over the timing of the kerfuffle.

You can see the altercation in the footage below:

It’s difficult to definitively pick out what irked the Rocket but he clearly wasn’t happy at all. The referee had to apologise to both competitors before the match continued on.

However, the audio suggests that the referee had accused him of some sort of unwelcome gesture.

“What gesture? Tell me, what did you see? Tell me, what did you see?” Ronnie can be heard saying.

“You saw nothing. You saw nothing. Go and look at your camera. You saw nothing. Don’t start, don’t start. Go check your cameras.”

Later, O’Sullivan accused the referee of simply stirring up trouble:

“I think he’s just seems to be looking for trouble, you know,” he said, speaking to Eurosport.

“I just get a vibe from the guy. They have hundreds of cameras out there. They can go and check them all. Slow-motion them down.”

O’Sullivan, in pursuit of his seventh world title, will enter the final day of the tournament with a 12-5 lead over Trump.
