Oliver Skipp's injury situation has proved a "worry" for Tottenham, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The £18m-rated midfielder has enjoyed a breakout campaign in north London, although his first full season in the first-team has ended in disappointment.

What's the latest news involving Skipp?

Skipp had made 28 appearances in all competitions prior to his injury and has proved himself a regular under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, with his form recently leading to a new contract.

However, a mystery injury has overshadowed what should have been a memorable 12 months for Skipp.

His most recent outing came in the Premier League defeat at Chelsea in January, and while Conte was hopeful of Skipp making a return before the campaign finishes, Tottenham recently confirmed that he's undergone surgery on a pubis issue in America and will return in pre-season.

Despite having three other senior midfielders at the club, it was a major blow to Conte, who revealed that Skipp was close to making his comeback last month before reporting discomfort having returned to outdoor training.

As a result, he'll end up missing 20 games, including the crucial north London derby next week, and Brown reckons that the sequence of events are worrying.

What did Brown say about Skipp?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a bit of a worry. I think they were hoping to have him back, Conte never seemed confident, but there was a window a few weeks ago where Skipp looked like he might be able to return before the end of the season.

"Nobody really knows the extent, but it's a worry that they were hoping to have him back and now he's not available."

Did Skipp deserve a new contract?

It's largely been a miserable campaign for Tottenham despite being just four victories away from securing their first fourth place finish since 2018-2019.

However, the emergence of Skipp has definitely been a massive positive for Conte, who appears to have an extremely talented midfielder on his hands.

Having been one of the few decent performers under Nuno and then continuing to shine since the Italian arrived, Skipp has more than merited being offered fresh terms, which are reportedly worth up to £80,000 per-week.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have formed an impressive partnership in Skipp's absence, but those three, plus a summer arrival, would make for a competitive midfield department next season.
