Everton 'would be foolish' to offer a new Goodison Park contract to Allan and the defensive midfielder is expected to seal his departure in the summer, according to Daily Star journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Allan made the move to Merseyside after a deal worth up to £25million was struck with Italian giants Napoli in September 2020, but there are question marks over whether he will still be on the club's books by the time the summer transfer window slams shut.

What's the latest news involving Allan?

Allan is set to enter the final 12 months of his Everton contract, which is worth £120,000-per-week, at the end of the season.

It means that, unless the Toffees tie the 10-cap Brazil international down to fresh terms, the summer could represent one of the Merseysiders' final opportunities to cash-in.

But contract negotiations do not appear to be in the offing because Everton will reportedly let Allan leave when the transfer window reopens as he does not feature heavily in boss Frank Lampard's plans.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, a switch to Lazio is a distinct possibility as the Serie A side's boss, Maurizio Sarri, wants to be reunited with the 31-year-old.

Allan has not been selected by any other manager more over the course of his career, having featured under Sarri on 132 occasions.

What has Paul Brown said about Allan?

While Brown believes Allan is of the same ilk as Chelsea star N'Golo Kante, he does not feel the Everton man is capable of protecting the defence single-handedly.

As a result, the journalist has urged Toffees chief Lampard to sanction the Brazilian's departure at the end of the season and not entertain offering a new deal.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't really regard Allan as just a single holding midfielder, like the way he played against Liverpool. He's more someone who likes to go and get the ball and get involved. He's more of an N'Golo Kante but doesn't have Kante's legs.

"I'm not surprised he's leaving and it would be foolish to stick him on a longer contract. He would probably want more in terms of a salary too, so it doesn't surprise me that he will go."

How has Allan performed this season?

Everton have struggled this season, finding themselves in the Premier League's relegation zone, and their problems have coincided with Allan underwhelming.

While Allan has still been a regular starter at the heart of the Toffees' midfield, making 30 appearances, he has only been able to help his current employers to 12 wins since the campaign began.

Allan hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons when, in last month's Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool, he only completed one pass over the course of his 73 minutes on the pitch - and that came from kick-off.
