Both Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor have been pictured looking battered and bruised after their historic fight at Madison Square Garden. Taylor retained her lightweight world titles with a split decision victory over Serrano. The Irish star was given scores of 97-93 and 96-93, with the final judge scoring it 96-94 to her Puerto Rican opponent. More than 19,100 noisy fans packed out Madison Square Garden, where a women’s boxing match was headlining for the first time. They witnessed an incredible last 30 seconds of fighting, with both Taylor and Serrano forced to dig deep. Both had bloody faces but refused to step back, resulting in an intense flurry of punches between the pair. The result of that encounter in the dying seconds of the bout is now clear to see, with Serrano sporting a bruised and swollen face in a video shared by her promoter Jake Paul. In the video, Serrano weighs herself after she claims she is not a natural lightweight fighter. The scales show she has gained only two ounces from the weigh-in, despite eating and drinking water after her clash with Taylor.

Paul captioned the video: “Amanda sent this to my partner in confidence, but I have to share it. I’m so proud of how you stepped up last night and almost knocked out your much bigger opponent.”

Taylor has also sustained her fair share of cuts and bruises, with a particularly nasty-looking gash on show in a selfie with DAZN presenter Laura Woods.

The fight between Taylor and Serrano had been billed as the biggest women’s boxing match in history, and it truly lived up to expectation.

Talk has now turned to a rematch, with Croke Park in Dublin touted as a suitable venue.

“Absolutely. We have to do this again,” Taylor said. “It was an absolute war for 10 rounds. I’m grateful to be in this position and sell out Madison Square Garden. Look what we’ve just done.

“I said before that when you think Madison Square Garden, you think Muhammad Ali v Joe Frazier, but now everyone will be thinking of Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano.”
