UFC star Dustin Poirier has revealed that he will probably face the winner of Michael Chandler vs Tony Ferguson in his return to the Octagon.

While he may not hold the gold at 155 pounds, Dustin Poirier is still widely regarded as one of the best P4P fighters in the world - and especially in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. ‘The Diamond’ has stood toe to toe with some of the promotion’s very best across the last few years and has twice fought for the undisputed lightweight title.

Unfortunately, on both occasions, he fell short with submission defeats to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.

The latter of those results occurred at UFC 269 last December, and fans have been wondering what he’s going to do next ever since.

One of the most popular theories has been that he’ll head back into battle against Nate Diaz with both men calling for that fight to get booked. Alas, it hasn’t come to fruition, opening up the door for Poirier to head in a different direction.

In an intriguing tweet to kick off the week, the 33-year-old confirmed that it’s very possible he will meet the winner of the clash between Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.

When will ‘Iron Mike’ collide with ‘El Cucuy’?

We don’t have to wait much longer to see Chandler and Ferguson get to work with their showdown being lined up for the main card of UFC 274 on Saturday night.

The division has been moving along at a steady pace in the last twelve months but with neither man having a recent win on their record, this is a big make or break contest.

The loser could be at risk of being cut, whereas the victor has the opportunity to potentially fight Dustin Poirier.

Dustin knows and understands how much value there is in staying active. Plus, with Charles Oliveira defending his belt against Justin Gaethje in the main event in Phoenix, there’s a good chance Poirier could be right back at the doorstep of a title challenge with a definitive win in his next outing - especially if ‘The Highlight’ can edge past ‘Do Bronx’.
