Patrick Vieira on France's World Cup win in 1998

"I was fortunate to be part of the generation, in 1998, that won the World Cup. It was in France and that was the icing on the cake.

"It was complicated there was a lot of racism going around at the time and to win that World Cup with the diversity that we had in the team showed what France was all about. It was bigger than football.'"

Did Ray Parlour teach Patrick Vieira English?

"There's this rumour going around... He wasn't the best because he didn't teach me the right stuff! The David Dein story is true (where Parlour taught Vieira to say 'Tottenham are s***' in front of the former Arsenal chairman).

"[Parlour is] a character and a personality. I love him. I can't repeat what he taught me. I'd be in big trouble!"

Does Patrick Vieira still speak to Arsene Wenger?

"I still speak to Arsene often. He follows what I am doing at Palace. We talk football, tactics, the way I want to prepare the team.

"He can give me feedback because he watches all our games. It's important for me to have him around."

Are Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane friends?

"We worked together [as pundits at Euro 2012] a couple of times. One day, we decided to walk back to the hotel together with the rest of the crew and we saw an ice cream shop.

"We went in and got some ice cream and then bumped into some fans. They couldn't believe that it was Roy and myself together eating ice cream. We joked that they weren't allowed to take a picture!

"I like Roy. He is a funny guy... He paid for the ice cream that day because the better player never pays!"
