Aston Villa defenders Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings could both depart the club in the summer transfer window, according to insider Dean Jones.

Steven Gerrard looks set to make some big calls in the off-season, and this could include offloading a number of first-team players.

What's going on with Konsa and Mings?

Konsa was an ever-present under Dean Smith in the first part of the season, starting all 10 of the Premier League games he was available for.

He has still played regularly with Gerrard at the helm, but has been dropped from the team on several occasions to accommodate Calum Chambers, including this past weekend as Villa beat Norwich 2-0.

Meanwhile, Gerrard has kept faith with Mings, picking him on a weekly basis and allowing him to keep the captain's armband.

However, the former Rangers boss has stated that he will re-evaluate the captaincy situation over the summer, suggesting he is not completely convinced that Mings should lead the side in the long-term.

What has Jones said about Konsa and Mings?

Jones has claimed that he could see a scenario where Konsa and Mings are both moved on in the coming months if Gerrard can find suitable replacements.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “They both could leave. I think that that’s plausible. And it’s not impossible that they could find two replacements at a decent value.”

"Mings and Konsa, for where Steven Gerrard is heading with this side, I think it's plausible that they would be open to offers for both players."

Who could replace Konsa and Mings at Villa?

Villa have been linked with a couple of defenders as the transfer window edges nearer.

It has been claimed that the club are monitoring Duje Caleta-Car's situation at Marseille. The 25-year-old is experienced, having made 22 international appearances for Croatia, and his contract is set to expire next year, suggesting that he would not be too expensive.

Gerrard is also expected to test the resolve of his former club Liverpool by making a move for Joe Gomez. The Reds centre-back has struggled for game time at Anfield this season, and may be tempted by the opportunity to play regular first-team football elsewhere.

If Villa could get deals for Caleta-Car and Gomez over the line, this may lead to Gerrard deciding to sell Konsa and Mings, who have a combined Transfermarkt valuation of £51.3m, in order to balance the books at the Premier League club.
