Harry Kane has received his fair share of trophy jokes over the years.

With Tottenham Hotspur not having gotten their hands on silverware since the 2008 League Cup final, the England captain has become something of a punchline for never having won a major honour.

Despite being a player of such extraordinary ability that he's won both the Premier League and World Cup Golden Boots, that maiden team trophy has continued to evade him with Spurs.

Kane's hunt for a trophy

Kane's trophy cabinet has continued to lay empty across a decade in the Tottenham first team, suffering defeat in the 2019 Champions League final as well as the 2015 and 2021 League Cup climaxes.

And his rotten run of luck even spread to his international career last summer with Kane watching on heartbroken as England lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy on penalties.

As such, you could certainly understand why Kane was angling for a move to Manchester City - who, by contrast, seldom ever go a year without winning a major honour - before the 2021/22 season.

However, with it looking less likely than ever that Daniel Levy will allow Kane to leave Tottenham, he seems set to maintain his status as the best male player in the world who has never won a trophy.

Most valuable players without a trophy

But hold that thought for a second because Kane most certainly isn't alone when it comes to mixing top-class ability with a distinctly quiet trophy cabinet.

In fact, with the 28-year-old having gone yet another season without breaking his duck, Transfermarkt decided to look at the 10 most valuable players who are yet to win a major honour.

While it might not come as a surprise that Kane finishes top of the pile with an eye-watering valuation of €100 million, it's certainly interesting to see the trophy-shy players that are nipping at his heels.

From world-record Premier League signings to major England internationals, there are more than a few top-class players still waiting to get that first trophy under their belt and you can check them out below:

England stars lead the way

No trophies, but plenty of quality.

The fact that the top three places are occupied by England stars goes to show just how highly valued Three Lions stars are in the transfer market, even if they're playing for clubs who don't regularly win titles.

Besides, the only reason that Grealish makes the cut is because he's spent 90% of his professional club career playing for Aston Villa, who haven't lifted major silverware above their head since the 1990s.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old might only be a few weeks away from leaving the list as he eyes both Premier League and Champions League glory now that he plies his trade for Manchester City.

By the same token, Rice could either win the Europa League with West Ham or move to a club like Chelsea or Manchester United where, in theory, silverware would be more forthcoming.

But it doesn't always work out that way with Maguire standing out as a cautionary tale with his three seasons at United, most of which have been spent as captain, failing to yield a single trophy.

And at the opposite end of the spectrum, we're not sure that Gavi will be losing too much sleep about not having won any silverware when he's only 17 years old and destined for bug things at Barcelona.

However, no matter the reasons behind each player's trophy drought and how long it might last for, you can't help feeling as though Kane will continue to top this particular list while he's at Tottenham.
