Newcastle 'ready to move on' £28m star from St James' Park

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe applauds fans

Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin is going to be looking for a new club this summer, believes transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park, and Jones can see the Tyneside outfit selling him as they look to move on as a club following their recent takeover.

What is the latest news involving Saint-Maximin?

Speaking about Saint-Maximin last month, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said (via BBC Sport): “[He’s] an incredible talent. Of course he has a long-term future at the club.”

However, there are doubts surrounding the winger’s future at Newcastle, as 90min reported that the Premier League outfit are open to selling him in the upcoming transfer window.

Elsewhere, the Mail on Sunday has claimed that the Magpies have already named their price, £50m, so it does indeed look like they could be willing to sell the 25-year-old despite him being one of their best performers this season.

Only Kieran Trippier (7.87) has managed to record a higher average match rating than Saint-Maximin (7.11) on WhoScored.

What has Jones said about Saint-Maximin’s Newcastle future?

Going forward, Jones does not think Saint-Maximin will be Newcastle’s star man and can now see him leaving the club.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “He’s not going to be Newcastle’s star man anymore. I think he’s going to be looking for a new club. I don’t think he’ll deliver every week; I think that’s why Newcastle are ready to move on beyond him.”

Why would Newcastle be willing to let Saint-Maximin go?

As already mentioned, Saint-Maximin has been one of Newcastle’s best players this term. When it comes to average dribbles per game (4.3), no other player in Howe’s squad comes close to him, showing just how much of an attacking threat he is for them.

With the financial backing they now have from PIF, though, Newcastle may feel that they can find an upgrade on the former Nice man.

Mark Stimson - Newcastle United

Do you know this obscure Newcastle United footballer from the 1990s?

His record in front of goal is not the best, netting just five times in the current Premier League campaign. Howe may feel there is better out there, especially given that he has money to spend.

Luring that upgrade to St James’ Park, however, may not be straightforward, as Newcastle are not a team competing in Europe just yet, so perhaps they should not be too hasty to get rid of Saint-Maximin this summer.
