Tottenham "love" Southampton and England midfielder James Ward-Prowse, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 27-year-old is currently being linked with a move to the north London club, and Jones says he is a player who they have liked for a long time.

What is the latest news involving Ward-Prowse?

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham are just one Premier League side who are currently tracking Ward-Prowse.

The same outlet states that, as well as Spurs, north London rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle United are also keeping tabs on him.

If the Southampton star is to leave St Mary's this summer, it is thought that he could cost up to £60m.

The above comes as no surprise given his long-term contract and his current form. Ward-Prowse has been a real threat this season, scoring nine goals in the Premier League, with four of those coming from free-kicks.

What has Jones said about Ward-Prowse and Tottenham?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Ward-Prowse is a player Tottenham adore but has doubts over whether they can actually get him out of St Mary's.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: "Look, Spurs love James Ward-Prowse and they've liked him for a long time. I just don't know if they can get him.

"He probably would be better than [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg, but people in that Spurs team would probably tell you Hojbjerg does a job in that team, that he's underappreciated, so slightly different players obviously."

Will Tottenham sign Ward-Prowse this summer?

This is not the first time Spurs have been linked with Ward-Prowse, with The Telegraph reporting last August that they were preparing to make a move for him during the 2021 summer transfer window.

Considering that and all of the above, it would not be a surprise if they did try to sign the England international ahead of the 2022/23 season.

However, paying £60m could be a problem for Spurs, while there is no guarantee that Southampton would even accept that. After all, Ward-Prowse only signed a new five-year deal last summer, so the Saints will not be under pressure to sell.

Therefore, Antonio Conte signing the Southampton academy graduate could be an extremely difficult task if the Italian does want to bring him to Hotspur Way.

But if Ward-Prowse keeps playing the way he has been, it is surely only a matter of time before a transfer elsewhere becomes a real possibility.
