Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is "destined" to play under Xavi at Barcelona, believes journalist Josh Holland.

The Portuguese maestro is thought to be attracting interest from the La Liga side, and Holland thinks it could be a good match.

What is the latest news involving Neves?

Spanish outlet SPORT recently claimed that Neves dreams of playing for Barcelona, who are monitoring his situation at Wolves.

The 25-year-old midfielder is about to enter the final two years of his contract at Molineux, casting doubt over his future.

As well as Barcelona, Arsenal are also thought to be interested in Neves, with Sky Sports reporting last month that he is a top target for the north London club, who could be forced to pay up to £60m for his signature.

Meanwhile, manager Bruno Lage has suggested that his player could actually fetch £100m in this current climate.

What has Holland said about Neves?

Holland has told GIVEMESPORT that Neves is destined to join Barcelona and link-up with Xavi, who was a master in the Portugal international's position during his playing days.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: "The history and the name Barcelona, that's pulling power in itself. And you look at what Xavi is doing at the club, there's always going to be the whole if he goes and works with Xavi, how good will he be?

"No disrespect to Wolves, but you'd rather live in Barcelona than Wolverhampton. I think that's more or less destined to happen."

Will Neves join Barcelona this summer?

You can definitely see a player of Neves' quality playing for a team like Barcelona, but it remains to be seen if the Spanish outfit can get a deal done in the upcoming transfer window.

They are struggling financially right now and do not even look like they can afford to sign another Wolves player, Adama Traore, who will only cost £29m at the end of his loan spell at the Camp Nou.

“We’d love Adama Traore to stay here. It’s possible - but we’re in a difficult financial situation. We’ll see at the end of the season," Barcelona president Joan Laporta was quoted as saying only last month (via The Independent).

When you consider that, how are Barcelona going to afford a player who Wolves value much more? By no means is Neves to the Camp Nou off the table, though. The above means he may just have to stay at Wolves a little longer and then push for a move when he is into the final year of his contract and his value has decreased.
