Real Madrid and the Champions League, name us a better combination in football?

The 13-time winners of the competition just never know when they're beaten and their latest comeback against Manchester City is one of the greatest ever.

In the 89th minute of their semi-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid were staring down the barrel of a 1-0 defeat and elimination.

But an odds-defying brace from Rodrygo Goes in stoppage-time changed everything and sent the match to extra-time, where Karim Benzema struck the decisive blow from the penalty spot.

Real Madrid will now do battle with Liverpool at the Stade de France on May 28, a rematch of the 2017/18 Champions League final.

One of the huge positives Madridistas will take from the 3-1 victory over City on Wednesday was the fact that so many youngsters played significant roles.

It wasn't a changing of the guard per se, more so a clear sign that Real Madrid's future looks brighter than ever.

Rodrygo (20), Vinicius Junior (21), Eduardo Camavinga (19), Fede Valverde (23) and Eder Militao (24) all contributed heavily to the epic win on home soil.

Rodrygo and Vinicius in particular will feel vindicated, as they've both been on the end of criticism in recent years due to their enormous price tags.

The pair were signed as teenagers from Santos and Flamengo respectively for around £40 million each, but have had serious struggles adapting to life in Madrid.

However, they've now both delivered on the biggest of stages and beautiful footage captured by Brazilian TV perfectly highlights just how much Wednesday's triumph meant to them.

They really are living the dream right now.

If Rodrygo continues his recent impressive form in front of goal, he may end up being part of Brazil's squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

As for Vinicius, Tite will almost certainly call him up, because he's been one of the stars of European football in 2021/22.
