Serena Williams is one of the best tennis players of all time, but will her daughter Olympia follow in her footsteps?

Olympia has often been photographed with a racquet in hand, prompting rumours that Williams might be trying to usher the four-year-old into playing the game.

Speaking on the Ellen Show, Williams discussed her daughter’s potential tennis career and stressed that she’s guiding her towards playing, albeit not too aggressively.

Williams reveals Olympia’s potential

Discussing her daughter’s current ability Williams said: “Olympia has shown potential” but insisted she still had a long way to go if she wanted to play tennis properly.

However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion stressed that she would not force her daughter to play, especially because she’s still so young.

“'But I don’t push her, I don’t push her because she’s four ... she’s alright, I’ve seen four-year-olds that might take her out on the court.”

According to Williams, right now her daughter’s focus is on “playing princess games,” rather than tennis.

“She loves princess games and the more we can play anything with princesses, that’s her whole life.”

Williams hires coach for daughter

Though Williams clearly has more than enough experience and knowledge to teach her daughter how to play tennis, she admitted she lacks the patience to be able to train someone and has, therefore, hired a coach for Olympia.

“This is such a funny story, because ... I don’t have the patience to teach tennis,” she said. “It’s so weird but I don’t really like to play with people who don’t know how to play tennis well - so it drives me nuts.  I was like, ‘I can’t I don’t have the patience for this,’ so I signed her up for a class, a private teacher…  I didn’t wanna tell her.”

Williams announced on Instagram that she had signed her daughter up for tennis lessons and revealed the coach was actually one of her 14.6 million followers.

When will Williams next play?

Williams remains in search of a 24th major title but has not played since Wimbledon last year.

Yet, the US star has teased that she will make her long awaited return at the All-England Club this summer.

Speaking to NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, Williams was asked about competing at the US Open and said: “Wimbledon is before the US Open, I have to play Wimbledon first!”

Williams has won Wimbledon seven times so far in her career and an eighth title would see her equal Margaret Court’s record of most Grand Slam victories.
