Newcastle aren't interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Recent reports have suggested that the Denmark international is on Eddie Howe's transfer wish list this summer, but Jones has denied those claims.

What's the latest news involving Hojbjerg?

According to the Mirror, the Toon Army are plotting a £30m move for the ex-Southampton man, which is double the £15m that Tottenham paid for his services in 2020.

The report says that Hojbjerg is 'high' on Howe's list of transfer targets ahead of the summer window reopening for business.

Hojbjerg has been a mainstay for Tottenham since his switch from Southampton almost two years ago, making 97 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with five goals and nine assists.

The midfielder has missed just two top-flight games during that period and has worked his way back into Antonio Conte's plans having been dropped for the defeat to Wolves nearly three months ago.

Therefore, Jones doesn't believe that Hojbjerg is on the Magpies' list ahead of the upcoming window.

What did Jones say about Hojbjerg?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm told that Hojbjerg isn't going to Newcastle, they aren't interested in him.

"But, in terms of central midfielders, however good Shelvey and Joelinton have been for Newcastle, they're not going to be a big part of that future because they're going to keep pushing and pushing, striving to get better, and those players will fall to the wayside where they will eventually be replaced by better players, and for a fan, that's pretty exciting."

Which other midfielders could Newcastle target?

Hojbjerg might not be on Newcastle's radar this summer, but Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips most definitely is.

The two parties are yet to reach an agreement over a new contract, meaning Phillips' future in Yorkshire remains in doubt. Therefore, Howe's side are in the race for his signature, along with Aston Villa, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Phillips' current terms at Elland Road expire in just over two years, and the Magpies will be hoping to take advantage of his uncertain situation.

In terms of more advanced midfielders, Newcastle are hoping to complete a double swoop from Lyon and sign Bruno Guimaraes' former teammate, Lucas Paqueta, who's directly contributed to 17 goals in 41 games this season for the French giants.
