Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe should sanction Allan Saint-Maximin's St James' Park departure as he will not fit into the Magpies' future plans, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Saint-Maximin has become a fans' favourite since swapping Nice for Tyneside in a £16million deal close to three years ago, but there are doubts over whether he will still be at the club next season.

What's the latest news involving Saint-Maximin?

Saint-Maximin's £93,000-per-week contract still has more than four years to run, so Newcastle are not under pressure to cash-in on the winger.

However, the Magpies are reportedly open to offloading the 25-year-old if a bid in the region of £50million is tabled as his departure will enable Howe to boost his transfer kitty.

Aston Villa are understood to be monitoring developments, but it appears the Midlands outfit are not the only Premier League club mulling over whether to head to the negotiating table.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton are also interested, although the latter will only stump up the cash if they maintain their top flight status.

Saint-Maximin has moved closer to the exit door after Howe became concerned by the Frenchman’s hefty salary demands while seeking a new contract.

What has Dean Jones said about Saint-Maximin?

Jones has urged Newcastle to part ways with Saint-Maximin as they head into a new era next season.

The transfer insider feels being able to find a buyer for the wide-man will have an impact on who Howe is able to welcome to St James' Park.

When asked what Newcastle supporters can expect from the upcoming summer window, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "It's really going to depend on who he can get out.

"People like Saint-Maximin are not going to fit in at the new Newcastle. Once the re-fit takes place, he needs to shift people like that out, see how he can replace them and the type of names and players that he can get into their position."

Why could Saint-Maximin's departure benefit Newcastle in the transfer market?

Newcastle may be the richest club in world football, but that does not necessarily mean that they are going to break the bank in order to welcome big-money stars to Tyneside this summer.

That is because Howe will reportedly be given a budget of less than £90million for the upcoming transfer window, with that figure only being boosted through player sales.

The Magpies' new-found riches came after the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund completed a £305million takeover last October.
