UFC 274: Michael Chandler wants 'legacy fight' against Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight Michael Chandler has reiterated his desire to face off against Conor McGregor in a ‘legacy’ fight.

He said he was going to be here for a good time, not a long time – and so far Michael Chandler has provided fans with some incredible moments as he continues to live up to his exciting reputation.

After a thoroughly impressive debut knockout win over Dan Hooker, Chandler proceeded to go to war with Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje in back-to-back encounters. While he may have gone 0-2 in those bouts, he was able to put in two really impressive performances that cemented his status as one of the best 155-pounders in the world today.

While he has another big fight to prepare for this weekend, Chandler is already looking ahead to what the future could hold. In the following interview, he notes that the one and only Conor McGregor is someone he’s got his eye on, but not because of the money.

“Not many guys wanna go out there and call out Conor McGregor, not because of the money, not because of the red panty night. Because they want the legacy fight and the stage and the significance of that fight.

“I want all the smoke. I want all the big fights, I want all the big names, all the big stages, and that’s what the UFC can give you that other organisations cannot. I’m right at home and I am 100% a UFC fighter, and people are starting to accept that.”

The next step for Michael Chandler

‘Iron Mike’ returns to the Octagon for a fourth time on Saturday night at UFC 274 when he goes head to head with Tony Ferguson.

While we all know what ‘El Cucuy’ is capable of producing when he’s at his best, it’s safe to say he hasn’t looked like the best version of himself for quite some time.

If Chandler is able to capitalise on that in a big way in Phoenix, he could vault himself right back into title contention at lightweight.

Or, as he’s noted, he may turn his attention toward a certain Irishman.
